Renovation at Alconza


Alconza has expanded and renovated its production and testing facilities, following the continuous improvement of the quality standard and always adapting to the changes that dictate the markets where it operates.

Alconza has an extra new manufacturing warehouse of 3,600m2 with ...:

  • Gauge of 15m max.
  • Pit deck of 264 m² for balancing and testing.
  • New paint booth.

In parallel, Alconza has invested in machinery to improve production processes in plant cells, such as self-controlled robot, taping and reeling specific technology, among others.

Thus, not only it has managed to increase the range of machines (larger machines, up to 40MVA), but it has also increased the production capacity to shorten lead times and provide a better response to their customers resulting more competitive.

As the tests of machinery requires a better response to more demanding for approaching to real conditions, Alconza's laboratory has also gone through a number of implementations for its improvement of performance:

  • Improvement of the sound insulation at the machine room.
  • Implementation of new system of control and test data acquisition (SCADA).
  • Project for a better prediction and reduction of electromagnetic noise.
  • Modular installation of semi-anechoic chamber tests at the pit deck.

El Hierro island: supplied in a 100% by renewable sources


On 9/08/2015, Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power plant supplies with energy from clean sources to all the residents of El Hierro island.

Technically, the plant consists of a wind farm of 5 grid-connected wind turbines and an hydroelectric power station with 4 generators made by ALCONZA, capable of producing 35 GW/h of energy to supply the population. These generators (2,825MVA/unit) perform when the windmills do not produce enough energy and due to this the waterfall must be exploited.

The project is a world leader not only by the technological achievement record combining different natural energy sources, but also because it is the first time a project of such magnitude and dimensions has ever built.

For the next decade, it is expected that the implemented system will generate a saving of 80 million of Euros due to 6.000 tons per year of less burned diesel and 20.000 tons of CO2 less poured to the atmosphere.

Atlantic Offshore PSV gets artistic touch


Taking advantage from the ONS offshore energy conference and the Nuart Street festival, both taken place in Stavanger (Norway) the shipowner Atlantic Offshore wanted to join the emerging artistic trends by allowing one of his vessels be painted by an international artist. This new vessel has christened with the name of "Ocean Art".

It's a PSV, VS485 MKIII design, built at Kleven shipyard (Norway) and with 5 motors for the propulsion delivered by Alconza. Ocean Art vessel will operate in the North Sea with a firm contract of exploitation with Statoil.

The fleet of Atlantic Offshore has another similar PSV vessel named "Ocean Art", being the machinery also manufactured by Alconza.



North Sea Atlantic's birth

North Sea Atlantic vessel has already been named in a ceremony. This vessel, constructed by Noryards Bergen for the shipowner North Sea Shipping, has an equipment of generators and motors of different types delivered by Alconza.

In the next five years, this vessel will work in the Norwegian North Sea followed by projects in the UK North Sea.

El Hierro: an island 100% energetically self-sufficient with 100% renewable sources


Gorona del Viento El Hierro S.A. has been the company responsible of the development and operation of the project "Hydro-wind power plant of El Hierro", thanks to which El Hierro will be the first electrically self-sufficient island using exclusively 100% renewable energy sources (wind and water). It is estimated that the annual savings in diesel will be about 2,000,000 €.

The power plant consists of three sections:

     a) Wind farm: it consists of 5 turbines of 2,3MW each, with adjustable blades for a better use of the wind potential.

     b) Hydroelectric substation: consists of 2 deposits (the superior of 380,000m3 and the inferior of 150,000m3), 4 speed regulated turbine groups with generators and flywheels of 2,825MW each manufactured by ALCONZA, and a pumping station of 6MW in total.

     c) Emergency station: in case the wind farm and the hydroelectric substation is not in use (due to the lack of wind and water, because of any technical failure or just due to maintenance works being developed in the system), the thermal power plant power of Llanos Blancos would function as it has been doing till the construction of the hydro-wind plant of El Hierro.

This pioneering project supported by national and international bodies could in the near future be extrapolated to other sites that wish to have a system of isolated system of generation.
