DC Orisant-Alconza

All high power output rotating machinery of the multi-purpose 5.450m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) DC Orisant has been delivered by Alconza.

We are speaking about 2.250kW exchangeable propulsion & dredging motors, 4.250KVA variable speed generators, 950kW jet pumps and 700kWthruster motors. The vessel was built by Royal IHC for joint venture consisting of Den Herder (Reimerswaal Dredging) and Group de Cloedt. Reimerswaal Dredging is a family-run business with over 50 years of experience in the mining of sand and gravel from riverbeds and seabeds.
The DC Orisant was developed with one key characteristic in mind: operational reliability. The DC Orisant boasts full system redundancy at every level, with a view to maximising flexibility and minimising downtime in the unlikely event that a component fails.
With this principle electric propulsion and dredging motors all manufactured by Alconza are fully exchangeable, assuring both key systems availability and minimizing the potential effects in the unlikely event of a motor breakdown, in addition, to be even more flexible and reliable they are double winding motors.
This ship is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an advanced Power Management System (PMS) that handles four variable speed generators manufactured by Alconza with special attention for electromagnetic performance, excitation and cooling system favouring optimum fuel economy and maximum reduction of CO2 & Nox emissions.
Dynamic Positioning (DP) also comes as standard, enabling high-precision positioning of the ship, to achieve it the vessel equips 3 thruster motors operating together with propulsion motors, all of them Alconza electric motors.
The multi-purpose custom-built gravel hopper DC ORISANT is on the shortlist for Dredger of the year, hopefully, they will be awarded on the November 20th ceremony.
