The company, with its self-developed engines, is part of the powertrain in Irizar-manufactured ie tram units
Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona (TMB for its acronym in Spanish) and the representatives of Irizar e-mobility have introduced four 100% electric, zero-emissions Irizar ie tram buses which from December onwards will support the mobility of the citizens of Barcelona.
These buses will start operating on the H16 line (Pg. Zona Franca – Fòrum / Campus Besòs) and will join the two Irizar ie buses that have been circulating since 2014 and that help deliver cleaner and more efficient transport services to the city of Barcelona.
To deliver this project, Alconza has invested three million euros to design, develop and manufacture these new 230 kW and 160 kW electric engines for the whole “Irizar ie” range.
The higher power engines are aimed at the 18-metre “ie bus” and the articulated “ie tram”, whereas the 160 kW engines will be installed in the up-to-12 metre buses. These engines allow a fast charge in five minutes, carried out via a retractable pantograph, which is connected to the mains during the stops where the charging stations are located. The full battery charge provides the vehicle with 100% clean mobility and its carried out at the TMB bus garages overnight.
With the delivery of this project, Alconza reinforces its position as a provider of electric engines to the automotive, maritime, hydroelectric and industrial industries.
