RRS Sir David Attenborough

Alconza is chosen again by Rolls&Royce Marine AS to design & manufacture the propulsion motors of the “RRS Sir David Attenborough” polar oceanographic icebreaker research vessel for the NERC, currently under construction at “Cammell Laird Yard” Liverpool´s Shipyard.

The vessel will operate in the arctic and Antarctic territory, being able to work during 60 continuous days in ice covered waters. In terms of design, the research vessel is the first of its kind, equipped with avant garde laboratory equipment and helideck, built in the United Kingdom.

Two propulsion lines, each one triggered by two tandem motors of 2.750kW at 140rpm, designed and fabricated by Alconza, under restrictive noise and vibration requirements, in order to commit with the SILENT-R class of DNV-GL. To reach this requirements an extensive and thorough design work has been performed, later on, validated on test bench
These motors have been satisfactory tested at Alconza´s facilities and delivered to the customer, adding a remarkable reference for Alconza.
