Alconza Customer Service is accredited as Essential Personnel during the State of Emergency for the maintenance of the Essential Services that Gorona del Viento provides.
In the midst of the “Health Alert”, with the impossibility of mobilizing personnel from the Customer Service department outside Spain, companies suck us Gorona del Viento on the Canary Island of El Hierro, are betting on Alconza, as Original Manufacturer (OEM) of their generators, to analyze and maintain their equipment.
Our technicians have successfully remained active, carrying out a great job for several weeks, which objective was to conclude the condition of the alternators, as well as evaluate and prepare the next steps to be taken for the correct operation of this Hydroelectric Power Plant in the coming years.
In this way, Gorona and Alconza have not only collaborated in the maintenance service, but at the same time have helped the activation of other sectors transport from the peninsula, settle on the island along with the rest of the necessary services that in dates of the Health Alert were scarce, if not non-existent of clients.
The Wind-Pumped Hydro Power Station of Gorona del Viento El Hierro S.A. is designed to supply the Meridian island with electrical energy derived from clean, renewable energy sources such as water and wind.
The Wind Farm has capacity to fully meet El Hierro’s demand for electricity. The surplus wind energy which is not consumed by the Island’s population is used to pump water from a lower reservoir to a higher reservoir. This water is stored in the upper reservoir and used to produce electricity by means of a hydraulic jump at times when the wind power is inadequate.
Water coming from the higher reservoir arrives at the Hydroelectric Plant, made of 4 units of 2,830 kW power each, with a total power of 11.32 MW. The maximum flow when in operation is of 2.0 m3/s, with a 655m gross head.
Alconza as their OEM provided in 2013 the 4 hydroelectric generators with 3,300 Kva at 1,000 rpm (6 Kv) size 800 and cooled by water, equipped with a complex system of bearings and flywheel unit based on the special technical requirements of the rotor inertia provided by the turbine manufacturer. These were set up during the first quarter of 2014, with Alconza present during this important phase of the project.
The Hydroelectric Plant has turned El Hierro into a world reference on mass integration of renewable energies in insular systems. The technological innovation of this system attracts many political and technical stakeholders from other territories, who see the Meridian island a model to follow in order to increase the utilization of clean sources in systems with difficulties to integrate renewables and, in general, in a planet that has the need to stop imminently the emission of polluting gases.
