Alconza’s Customer Service will also provide technical support, maintenance, spare parts and training throughout the Life Cycle of the product.
Alconza has just successfully concluded a complex project awarded at the beginning of the year by Wärtsilä SAM Electronics GmbH, a German enterprise. The contract included supplying the engines and generators for a modern expedition cruise ship, called Minerva, which is currently being built at Helsinki Shipyard Oy in Finland.
This type of vessels – smaller than cruise vessels, but like them, with all sorts of amenities for their travellers – is perfectly prepared to explore remote locations. Likewise, expedition vessels are typically used in navigation routes with extreme conditions. For this reason, this type of cruise ships require very effective and efficient propulsion systems, usually with mixed diesel and electric motors.
In the case of Minerva, the order entailed the manufacturing of two 2,300 kW motors for the main propulsion, as well as 4 additional generators of 2,000 kVA. In a real short time, Alconza has designed and manufactured these machines in Spain, meeting the delivery timelines agreed with the client and enabling the building of the ship with absolute normality, in spite of the global pandemic.
In fact, the testing of the equipment took place during the months of July and September, with the presence of representatives of the client, the shipyard, as well as the certifying agency. The tests were completely satisfactory and sealed the acceptance of the manufactured equipment by the client. At the moment, Alconza is finishing the manufacturing of a similar set for a vessel of the same characteristics that will soon start being built.
As a matter of fact, the experience accrued by Alconza in technologically sophisticated projects as well as for expedition vessels that operate on frozen routes (where equipment must comply with the strict ICE requirements) has enabled the Basque company to supply both the electric motors of the vessel’s main propulsion, as well as the electric generators needed to drive the cruise ship, while also providing support for additional auxiliary and/or hotel services.
Moreover, Alconza’s Customer Service will provide technical support, maintenance, spare parts and training throughout the full Life Cycle of both expedition cruise ships. Staffed with a team of highly experienced, qualified technicians, the key priority of the Customer Service team is to deliver Customer Satisfaction and the Continuous Improvement of our products and services, supported by the latest diagnostics equipment and providing international coverage.
